These prayers need no introduction, explanation, or breaking news to remain relevant. Scripture commands most of them. They belong continually in the intercessor’s prayer.
Pray for the salvation of all who are lost—your friends and loved ones who need Jesus.
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” — Luke 19:10
God “will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” — 1 Timothy 2:3–4
Pray against strongholds, principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and witchcraft activities in your vicinity, city, and region.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world…” — Ephesians 6:12
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.” — 2 Corinthians 10:4–5
Pray for revival—a restoration of the life and power of the Holy Ghost upon the people and the Church of Jesus.
“Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?” — Psalm 85:6
“O Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years… in wrath remember mercy.” — Habakkuk 3:2
Pray for world leaders, that they may lead in the fear of God and rule over people as servants of God.
Pray “for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life…” — 1 Timothy 2:1–2
“He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.” — 2 Samuel 23:3
Pray for Church leaders: that grace may be granted them to speak the Word in season and out of season; to pastor the flock of Jesus with love, care, righteousness, and the fear of God; that wisdom be given them; and that the power of God may be made known in their lives and ministries.
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort…” — 2 Timothy 4:2
“Feed the flock of God which is among you… being ensamples to the flock.” — 1 Peter 5:2–3
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.” — Psalm 122:6–7
“I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night…” — Isaiah 62:6–7
Pray for Christians all over the world, that they may grow in the knowledge and fear of God.
Pray that they “might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” — Colossians 1:9–10
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ… may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.” — Ephesians 1:17–18
Pray for the sick, that the Lord will heal them, strengthen them, sustain their families, and reveal His mercy and power in their lives.
“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him… And the prayer of faith shall save the sick.” — James 5:14–15
“Pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” — James 5:16
Pray for the poor and needy. Ask God for provision, protection, justice, and compassionate people who will answer their needs; remain willing to become part of His answer.
“Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.” — Psalm 41:1–3
“Whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need… let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” — 1 John 3:17–18
Pray for those who are oppressed, exploited, imprisoned, trafficked, displaced, or denied justice. Ask God to deliver them and to raise righteous advocates on their behalf.
“Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.” — Psalm 82:3–4
“Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.” — Isaiah 1:17
Return to them personally, with your family, and in the gathered company of intercessors.
